Carlos Alcaraz to Taylor Fritz: Everything You Need to Know About Laver Cup 2025 Line-Up

The countdown has officially begun for the 2025 Laver Cup, one of tennis’ most electrifying spectacles, where Team World and Team Europe clash for ultimate bragging rights. With the official lineup now revealed, fans are buzzing as both rosters boast a thrilling mix of youth, experience, and raw star power. There will be quite a few debutants this year, and other than that, players like Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz will also be seen in action. Are you ready?
The Laver Cup will take place at the state-of-the-art Chase Center, home of the seven-time NBA Champion, Golden State Warriors and WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries, from September 19 to 21. This will be the eighth edition of this competition, and if we take a look back, Team Europe has won five of the seven previous editions, but Team World has had the last laugh in two of the last three. Who all will feature in this year’s event, though?
Starting this year, Yannick Noah will replace Bjorn Borg as the captain of Team Europe, and Tim Henman will be the vice-captain. On the other side, Andre Agassi will take the place of John McEnroe from this edition, and he will lead Team World alongside the vice-captain, Patrick Rafter. Now coming to the lineups…

What is the format of the Laver Cup?
Well, this iconic tennis event, co-created by Roger Federer to honor tennis legend Rod Laver, has quickly become a fan favorite. The event consists of five sessions played over three days. The first team to win 13 points (out of a total of 24 points) wins the trophy, and if the score is tied after 12 matches, a final doubles match is played to determine the winner.
Interestingly, the matches on Day 1 are worth one point each, while the matches on Day 2 are worth two points each, and on Day 3, they will be worth three points each. Quite exciting, isn’t it?
How did tennis stars, including Taylor Fritz and Carlos Alcaraz, react to the unique challenge at the Laver Cup?
Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz were the first players to be confirmed for the eighth edition of the Laver Cup. Last year while sharing his thoughts about the participation in this tournament once again in 2025, Alcaraz said, “It was great being part of Team Europe at the Laver Cup in Berlin this year. To have all the players I’m used to fighting against together, on the bench supporting me, sharing the same goal—to lift the trophy—is unique. I found it really motivating. I loved the Laver Cup energy, the environment, the atmosphere, and I can’t wait to be part of it again in San Francisco.” Even Taylor Fritz claimed that he’s “pumped” to represent Team World once again.

Talking about reactions from some of the other superstars who’ll be seen in action this year, Francisco Cerundolo, who’ll be returning to the competition for the third time, said, “I am really looking forward to returning to the Laver Cup.” According to the Argentine, putting on the red shirt and stepping out to represent Team World at Chase Center is going to be a great honor. Jakub Mensik will be making his debut this year, and he said that representing Team Europe with players like Carlos and Sascha is a “dream come true” for him, and he’s also truly honored to be a part of the team.
Flavio Cobolli also expressed his excitement for the same, saying competing for Team Europe will be really “special.” Who else shared their thoughts on getting the chance to feature in this star-studded event?
America’s Alex Michelsen said, “I can’t wait to wear this (red jacket) in San Francisco. I’m super pumped.” He is quite excited to play under the captaincy of American legend Andre Agassi. While on the other side, the teenage sensation, Joao Fonseca, will also make his debut in this tournament co-created by his tennis idol (Federer). So, you can understand how ecstatic this young lad will also be.

Casper Ruud will feature in this tournament for the fifth consecutive time, and he also looks forward to bringing out his best in this tournament.
Danish superstar Holger Rune revealed, “[I’ve] talked to many of the players, and they say it’s one of the most fun events to play in, a great event. [For] many of them, it’s their favorite event—even more than the Grand Slams.” Really?
Why not! Over the years, this tournament has hosted multiple superstars of the game, from the ‘Big 4’ to other legends of the sport, including John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg, who served as captains in previous editions. How excited are you for the Laver Cup 8.0?
