Jack Draper’s Verdict on Carlos Alcaraz-Jannik Sinner vs the Big 3 in Their Prime

Dec 15, 2025, 1:40 PM CUT

There was a time when tennis felt immovable, locked in an era ruled by three men who seemed immune to time itself. Roger Federer glided, Rafael Nadal fought, and Novak Djokovic endured - and together, they redefined what greatness looked like. For nearly two decades, the sport revolved around the ‘Big 3,’ leaving little room for anyone else to breathe. But tennis, like time, never truly stands still. As the 2025 season unfolded, a new rhythm took over the ATP Tour. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner - dubbed the ‘new two’ - didn’t just announce themselves; they dominated. This makes us wonder: Could these two beat the ‘Big 3’ in their prime? Here’s what their peer Jack Draper has to say on this.

With 6 Grand Slam titles in his bag, Alcaraz has raced ahead of the curve. Sinner, not far behind with 4 major titles, has built a game of ruthless precision and icy composure. At their current trajectory, the numbers suggest they could one day stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the legends. But numbers alone don’t settle tennis arguments. That’s where Draper stepped in.

The British number one, who has shared courts and locker rooms with this new generation, offered a measured and refreshingly honest perspective while speaking to Tennis Mentor. When he was asked about Alcaraz and Sinner’s chances of beating the ‘Big 3’ in their prime, he said, “I mean, I think it’s tough. Because those guys have got so much experience, and they’ve done it for so many years, and they’ve been so consistent, and you can’t match them to those guys just yet.”

But Jack Draper didn’t stop there. Because while legacy takes time, brilliance doesn’t wait. He further added, “But I think from a purely tennis perspective, and what they’re doing on the court, I think some of their top level has been as good as those guys in their prime. So I think they’ve probably got a long way to go to be, like, in with that sort of crowd because they’ve achieved so much, but at the same time their tennis is, you know, I think everyone would agree that it’s out of this world.”

And that’s where the sport finds itself today - caught between memory and momentum. Alcaraz and Sinner may not yet own the era the way Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic once did. But the level they’re reaching, the heights they’re touching, suggest that tennis isn’t losing its giants. It’s simple watching new ones grow.

How does Jack Draper look at the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, and how big is the gap between him and those two?

Tennis bigwigs make bold predictions on Jack Draper

As Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner tighten their grip on men’s tennis, the search for the third one to complete a new ‘Big 3’ is already underway. And increasingly, one name keeps surfacing in conversations among former players and tennis greats: Jack Draper.

The British left-hander may not yet boast a Grand Slam collection like the Spaniard and the Italian, but those who have lived through tennis’s most ruthless eras believe Draper has something rare - something that could trouble even the sport’s brightest stars. The Brit has faced Sinner twice so far in his career, and the H2H record is currently leveled at 1-1. While against Alcaraz, it’s 2-4.

Previously, in an interview with Tennis Majors, Jack Draper said his main aim is to “fire and compete” in 2026. Although he has huge respect for both Alcaraz and Sinner, the Brit wants to challenge these two in the game and try to “end their dominance.” But can he do it?

According to renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou, “I already said it several years ago. If Jack can stay injury-free, he is definitely a top-5 player. He has the potential to challenge Carlos and Jannik. He definitely has everything to succeed.” Even Aussie star Daria Saville backed Jack Draper to be the man to challenge ‘Sincaraz’ with his lethal weapons on the court.

Who else? Legends of the game see Draper as the potential disruptor precisely because he doesn’t try to imitate them. As per Jim Courier, Draper could be the one to bridge the gap. “I’m going to put my money down on Jack Draper. If he’s healthy, as he’s shown us at Indian Wells, he can play with the big boys. He’s got big weapons with his leftie serve, his forehand is massive, he just needs health,” said Courier in a conversation on Tennis Channel.

Even Aussie legend Pat Cash thinks the Brit can catch Alcaraz and Sinner. He believes Draper is right there alongside these two to form the new Big 3.

Jack Draper knows that both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are way ahead of him, but guess what? He claims, “I’ve set a bar for now, but it’s up to the newer players to challenge and end their dominance.”
