Jannik Sinner Unveils His First 2026 Event While Flaunting His F1 Obsession

Dec 9, 2025, 1:40 PM CUT

Jannik Sinner’s offseason took a fast and furious turn - straight to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. With the Italian grinning ear to ear among the F1 machines, it was clear he was in his happy place. But once Sky Sports handed him a mic, the tennis world perked up. One question floated above all the noise: When will Sinner be back on court?

With fans eager to know when the world number 2 would return to competition, Sinner didn’t hesitate, offering the clarity everyone was waiting for. “Next tournament, Australian Open, middle of January. So we have some time off, time to practice and try to get ready for next year,” said the Italian.

The 2026 AO starts on January 12, and guess what? Jannik Sinner is not only the defending champion but also the two-time defending champion, with a clear ambition of breaking records with his third consecutive title in Melbourne. However, before the AO, he will play an exhibition match with his fierce rival Carlos Alcaraz in Seoul on January 10.

What a season it was for the Italian! Despite serving a three-month ban, he managed to finish the year in the Top 2, with a win-loss record of 58-6. He won 6 titles in 2025. Sinner shared a heartfelt post on social media after the ATP Finals. He analyzed his performance over these past twelve months, saying, “A special year with highs and lows, but full of gratitude for the people around me. Couldn’t do it without this team. One of the best weeks of the year, thank you for the support and all the hard work. Time for a little break now.”

But now, it’ll be interesting to see how many he adds to his bag in 2026. Back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025 have already cemented Melbourne as his fortress. A potential third consecutive triumph would elevate him to an exclusive club, solidifying his status as one of the dominant hard-court players of his generation.

Yet what makes Jannik Sinner’s AO announcement all the more compelling is the way he continues to balance his passions. Tennis may be his profession, but Formula 1 is clearly part of his joy. Observing him dissect lap times with the same focus he brings to analyzing his serve percentage reminds fans exactly who he is: an athlete who thrives in speed, precision, and the thrill of competition - whether it’s on asphalt or a blue hard court.

Taking a closer look at Jannik Sinner’s off-court reset in Abu Dhabi

For years, fans had suspected it. His eyes would light up whenever an F1 race was mentioned in interviews. He’d drop casual references to pit-stop strategies and tire compounds the way other players might discuss backhands and forehands. But in Abu Dhabi, he didn’t just confirm it - Jannik Sinner lived it.

During a previous interview with Formula1.com, the Italian tennis star revealed, “Being Italian, F1 is in my blood, so I couldn’t be more excited to be working with not only the best brand in motorsports but the best sports platform in the world. I am honoured to be given this opportunity and truly thrilled to be a Friend of F1.” According to Sinner, his dad and grandfather instilled in him a passion for cars. He’s now a big fan of the Italy-based Ferrari team.

Recently, Jannik Sinner was spotted among sporting royalty at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He met soccer legends Ronaldinho and Thierry Henry and also spent time with the likes of Kimi Antonelli, George Russell, Toto Wolff, and many more superstars. He watched Max Verstappen win the Grand Prix and Lando Norris claim his first F1 World Championship.

Even Jannik Sinner’s girlfriend, Laila Hasanovic, was also spotted alongside him during this visit. He also shared a couple of posts on IG about his recent trip to Abu Dhabi. One of which was captioned, “Thank you @f1 for this amazing day! Can‘t wait to come back 🏁.”

Once the offseason fades and Melbourne calls, he’ll trade the roar of cars for the roar of a packed Rod Laver Arena, taking the same thrill with him onto the court. Do you think Sinner can defend his title one more time in Melbourne this year?
