Taylor Fritz Opens Up on Fitness Concerns Ahead of His Crucial Paris Masters Redemption Campaign

Taylor Fritz’s road to the Paris Masters isn’t unfolding quite the way he would have wanted. After an unexpected early exit from the Swiss Indoors at the hands of the Frenchman, Ugo Humbert, he said, “Wish I could have had a better week.” Having said that, the world number 4 also mentioned that now it’s “time to finish the season strong in Paris.” But as things stand, just days before starting his campaign at the French capital, the American star shares a worrying update that has his fans holding their breath.
The 27-year-old, known for his explosive baseline game and relentless fighting spirit, has played more than 70 matches this season. Fritz has won two titles (Boss Open, Eastbourne Open) this season, and he currently has a win-loss record of 51-20. So, there has already been a lot of tennis for the American this year, and just a few weeks ago, he was spotted joining Jack Draper in expressing their concerns about the host of injuries suffered by players on the men’s tour in recent times. Draper said, “Injuries are going to happen… we are pushing our bodies to do things they aren’t supposed to in elite sport.” The Brit claimed that the calendar has to adapt if any of the players are going to achieve some sort of longevity.
Speaking on the same topic on social media, Taylor Fritz then added, “Facts, also seeing more injuries and burnout now than ever before because balls, courts, conditions have slowed down a lot, making the weekly grind even more physically demanding and tough on the body.” Amid all these ongoing debates about the grueling tennis schedule, Fritz shared a fitness update before the Paris Masters. During an interview with Tennis TV, he said, “I think when it comes to playing, there are three things. It’s: How does your body feels, how is your mind, you know, how mentally ready you are to be playing and be out there competing. The third thing is just how your game is in general, you know, and I feel like my game is at a good spot. I think I’m playing pretty good tennis. My body is… It’s okay, you know; there are some things for sure that I need some time to heal up.”
Despite getting back to his form after the French Open, Fritz’s level dipped a bit in recent weeks. Although he reached the final at the Japan Open, he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets (4-6, 4-6). Following that came two early exits at the Shanghai Masters and Swiss Indoors. Now, as the ATP calendar reaches its final Masters 1000 event of the season, the question lingers—will Fritz be fit enough to make a deep run in Paris? Well, during the interview he further added, “I just got to kind of finish the season strong and work through it the last couple weeks, and mentally I’m feeling ready to go and compete, so you know I’m definitely not in a bad spot.”

For Taylor Fritz, the Paris Masters holds more than just ranking points—it’s his final chance to secure a strong finish before the ATP Finals. His best record in this tournament was reaching the QF in 2021. However, last year he was knocked out of the tournament in the R32 by Jack Draper in a three-set thriller.
Can Fritz get a strong start this year with a win against Australia’s Aleksander Vukic? The American currently has a 3-0 record against Vukic. So, this shouldn’t be a massive challenge for Fritz, but still…who knows?
As he prepares for Paris, Fritz’s focus is clear—recover, regroup, and reignite his form. Taylor Fritz has always thrived under pressure, and if his history is any indication, a strong showing in Paris could not only silence his doubters once again but also set him back on course for year-end glory against some of the biggest stars in the current era, like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Is a fully fit Taylor Fritz a real threat for ‘Sincaraz’ dominance?
In a sport where Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have become the modern symbols of youth and domination, Taylor Fritz has often been viewed as the nearly man—the American who flirts with greatness but falls just shy of the spotlight. Yet as the season edges towards its final Masters in Paris, Fritz is quietly crafting a narrative of persistence and progress, one that suggests he’s not far from the European duo’s elite echelon.
In a previous interview on Netflix, tennis legend Tim Henman shared his thoughts about Fritz’s chances of putting up a strong challenge against Alcaraz and Sinner. He highlighted Fritz’s incredible skills and went on to add, “I think he’s (Fritz) one of these players who’s always looking to improve. That has been reflected in his results, and I think he’s the one who’s most likely to close the gap between the top two.”
But not only Henman, even a top performance expert, Mark Kovacs, heaped praise on Taylor Fritz’s massive improvement in recent times. During a previous episode of The Inside-In Tennis Podcast, he spoke about how Fritz wasn’t a good mover in his early days, but how he has made a concerted effort to get better at that aspect (physical speed and agility) of his game.
Seeing his massive improvement over the years, Kovacs said, “He’s now knocking on the door. If you’re going to say, ‘Who’s the player to challenge [Jannik] Sinner and [Carlos] Alcaraz right now?’ Taylor is right up there; he’s that third or fourth guy that is knocking on the door. That’s a testament to him, his competitiveness, his desire to be great, which it really is, and his team.”
His consistency has truly been quite remarkable in recent times. But as per ATP’s records, he has a 1-4 record against both Alcaraz and Sinner. What does Taylor Fritz think about closing the gap with these two, though?
Well, after facing yet another defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the SF of the Six Kings Slam in straight sets, Fritz admitted, “The three previous times we played each other, it felt like the gap was closing.” However, he wasn’t pleased with his performance in that match. With the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals knocking at the door, Fritz will probably yet again get the chance to face both these superstars. Do you think the American can get the better of these two and finish the year on a higher note?
