Jasmine Paolini Lauds Carlos Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner but Reveals Her Personal Favorite

In the world of tennis, admiration often comes wrapped in diplomacy - players usually praise everyone, say little, and keep their personal preferences tucked safely away. But every now and then, someone breaks the script. This week, it was Italy’s own Jasmine Paolini.
Sitting comfortably under the studio lights during an episode of Che tempo che fa’ on ‘Nove,’ Paolini found herself facing a question that fans have argued about endlessly: Between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who wins her vote? The host barely finished the sentence before Paolini smiled - because she knew that for an Italian champion like her, this wasn’t just a question. It was a tug-of-war between nation, emotion, and pure admiration for tennis brilliance.
“Who do I prefer between Sinner and Alcaraz? It drives me crazy when Jannik hits the ball hard; it's a feeling I love experiencing firsthand. Of course, Alcaraz also has a game that leaves you speechless. Both are incredible, but Jannik is Jannik,” Jasmine Paolini replied.
In recent years, the rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner has blossomed into one of the most electrifying in men’s tennis. Their matches feel less like contests and more like cinematic events: Alcaraz with his explosiveness and instinctive flair, Sinner with his laser-like precision and relentless depth. To a million fans, choosing between them is impossible. But Paolini has a front-row seat to the sport’s evolution - and a feel for details only a fellow professional could notice.
But this wasn’t the first time that Jasmine Paolini was asked to sit in the hot seat. Even in September this year, during a conversation with EFE, she spoke about how different Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are when it comes to their personalities.

“They are two really different personalities, two distinct players who make us very excited and entertained on the court. The fact that they are so different makes this rivalry more beautiful. They are polite, respectful, intelligent, and play tennis at a high level. I tend to make more noise, smile more, so if we look at it this way, I resemble Alcaraz more; however, I really enjoy watching how Jannik plays because he likes to push the opponent from the baseline, and with my personal experience on the court, I find it more beneficial to watch how Jannik plays and moves,” she said.
Jasmine Paolini’s candid moment reflects a broader truth: even elite players are captivated by the Sinner-Alcaraz storyline. They see the same elements fans do - youth, ambition, contrasting styles - and they recognize that this rivalry is shaping not just the sport’s present but its future.
For Paolini, one thing is clear: you can admire Carlos Alcaraz, you can be stunned by him, but standing in front of Jannik Sinner’s raw, booming ball-striking? That stays with you. Do you know she also shares a very close bond with Sinner?
Jasmine Paolini talks about her admiration for Jannik Sinner’s immense talent
For Jasmine Paolini, Jannik Sinner isn’t just a player she admires from afar - he’s someone whose influence has quietly seeped into her own game. Their camaraderie, born from shared courts and shared conversations, offers a rare glimpse into the subtle ways top players inspire each other behind the scenes.
It was at the Davis Cup Finals last year that Paolini experienced something unexpected. In October during an interview with Tennis 365, she revealed, “At the Davis Cup finals last year, my ex-coach Renzo (Furlan) was speaking with Jannik, and I was surprised because he said I wasn’t doing something on the court. I can’t say what it is because my opponents will know then!”
Whatever the technical flaw was, it hadn’t escaped Sinner’s sharp eye. His ability to read the game - whether it’s his own or someone else’s - has become one of his trademarks. And receiving a tip from someone like him? That’s a privilege Paolini takes seriously.
“My coach came to me and said: ‘Jannik has said you need to do this.’ I mean, when Jannik tells you to do something, you just have to do it. How can you say no to Jannik’s advice?”
Jasmine Paolini also spoke about how big Jannik Sinner’s influence has been in their country. “He is doing unbelievable things on the court, and I think people like how he is behaving on and off the court because he is a really nice guy. He is a good role model. That is very good for our sport in Italy, and it is good for our sport. Tennis is growing in Italy because of him,” she added.
Even when Sinner made a comeback after serving a three-month ban earlier this year, Paolini revealed that she had sent him a message on IG showing her love and support for him in tough times.
However, it’s not just about Jasmine Paolini; even the men’s number 2, Sinner, has often hailed her compatriot’s brilliance in the women’s tour. For example, he once said, “She is always happy, she likes to play, she likes to play on a centre court, when it’s full. She is a hard worker. She has definitely made some difficult choices in her career too. She has a great personality. I’m happy with what she is doing…” Good times for Italian tennis?
Perhaps a big yes! But do you think these two can rule both the ATP and WTA Tours in 2026? Share your thoughts in the comment box.
