Hayden Senger predicted he would hit his first career home run on the same day Christian Scott earned his first victory. The Mets' rookie catcher watched that hunch become reality on Saturday in a 6-1 win over the Marlins. Both players celebrated significant career milestones together in Miami.
"I've caught a lot of his games. I think being able to share it with him is really cool. I kind of thought we would do it together, I just kind of had a feeling, but to have it actually come to fruition is really cool,” said Sunger following their win over the Marlins.
“Coming up through all the levels, so you want to see him get that moment and the smile on his face as he was running the bases and the dugout was awesome,” added Scott.
Making his 16th big-league start, Christian Scott finally had his first MLB win. He allowed just one run while matching a career high of eight strikeouts in five innings.
The Mets' offense backed him up as well. Mark Vientos hit a two-run double, and Marcus Semien hit an RBI single in the fourth. Meantime, Jaren Young lined a single-run homer in the sixth, and Hayden Senger launched his career-first homer in the death innings.
According to Scott himself, both were showered with food and beverages after the game. “I won’t be able to get peanut butter out of my hair for a couple of weeks,” Scott said, “but it was awesome.”
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza specifically highlighted Scott's contribution to the victory.

Since the start of the season, the Mets have wanted a good pitcher for them. It appears now that Christian Scott is the answer to their questions. Against the Marlins, Scott’s sweeper was electric, generating five whiffs on 16 swings.
“If we can get that version, which I’m pretty confident we will, that’s another factor for us to turn this thing around, right there,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. “He’s too talented. He’s got electric stuff, and he’s going to continue to help us.”
“His stuff is very swing and miss, and when he's in the zone, and he's locating that heater at the top, it's pretty tough to hit,” added Senger.
After missing last season due to Tommy John surgery, Christian Scott is looking to become the go-to starter for the team, but will he be able to? Time will tell.
