Mirra Andreeva’s Breakthrough Season Sparks Bold 2026 Prediction From Serena Williams’ Ex-Coach

Nov 19, 2025, 1:40 PM CUT

The tennis world has watched Mirra Andreeva grow before their eyes - but nothing could have prepared fans for the whirlwind she created in 2025. At just 18, Andreeva stitched together a season that felt like a coming-of-age film playing out on the WTA Tour. 2 titles, a surge into the Top 5, and a sparkling 40-16 record… Her breakout wasn’t quiet, nor was it accidental. It was the arrival of someone who understood exactly who she wanted to be. Yet the most powerful validation of her rise came from a man who helped forge greatness himself.

Before the start of the 2025 season, Andreeva’s goal was to reach the Top 10 by the end of the season. She entered the Top 10 on February 24, and following that, she set a new target for herself. Andreeva said, “I think it’s going to be hard to enter the top 5. This is the exact goal that I’m going to set for myself, to be Top 5 by the end of the year.” Although she managed to reach the Top 5 on 14 July, 2025, Andreeva finished the year as world number nine.

However, despite this massive drop in rankings, Serena Williams’ ex-coach, Rick Macci, recently shared a bold prediction about this teenage sensation. He tweeted, “Andreeva can win a slam next year. Top 3 is around the bend and coming soon; she will be number one in the end. She is so young and flew into the top ten the Russian Rabbit will win multiple Slams, the end. @MirraAndreevaFR.” Did it feel less like a prediction and more like a prophecy?

But this wasn’t the first time that we’ve seen Macci showering praise on Mirra Andreeva. Rick Macci has seen prodigies come and go, but with Andreeva, he sees a blend that reminds him of the players who defined eras - court intelligence, fearless shot-making, and a mental calm that rarely appears in teenagers still navigating the Tour.

In September, during an exclusive interview with Tennis365, he even hailed Andreeva as the “new sheriff in town” and went on to claim, “She’s one of the best young prospects I’ve seen in a long time.” Macci praised Andreeva for being a brutal competitor and added, “I see greatness, and the thing about her game, once she gets into that number one category — one, two [in the rankings] — she’s not going anywhere, because she has too much competitiveness.”

2025 may have been her coming-out party. 2026, if Macci is right, might just be the year Mirra Andreeva becomes a household name. He even predicted her to be a “double-digit Grand Slam winner” in the near future. But do others in the tennis world agree with this take on the young Russian superstar?

Tennis legend joins Rick Macci in sharing thoughts about Mirra Andreeva’s Grand Slam title hopes

Mirra Andreeva’s rise has never been quiet. It has been sharp, loud, and impossible to ignore - much like the fearless teenager herself. But as the 2025 season winds down, something extraordinary has begun to happen on the tennis tour: the sport’s biggest legends are speaking about her not as a promising youngster, but as a future champion destined for the sport’s biggest stages. And guess what? Rick Macci isn’t the only one in that list!

Andreeva, still only a teenager, has already built a reputation for taking down the Tour’s giants with an ease that often shocks the crowd. According to the Aussie tennis player, Jaimee Fourlis, it’s only a matter of time before Andreeva takes the next step.

Last year, she ended the year ranked 16th in the world, and this year she has already jumped to 9th. So, the progress is quite visible. According to Tracy Austin, “I think she is going to be, in the future, I think she’s going to be world number one because of that serve as a huge weapon, her mobility, her ability to hit that backhand through the court, the slice on the forehand, the touch, the feel, the power, all of it only 18, and it has improved so much from last year.”

Coming to the Grand Slams, fans have watched her knock at the door quite a few times already (2024 French Open: SF, 2025 Wimbledon: QF). Can he win one in 2026? According to Nick Kyrgios’ ex-coach Simon Rea’s statement during a previous episode of ‘The Tennis’ podcast, “I think Mirra Andreeva is only going to continue to get better. I think particularly on clay, at Roland Garros, we could see her being in with a red-hot chance.”

Even Aussie legend Pat Cash named Mirra Andreeva as one of the favorites (other than Amanda Anisimova) to win a Grand Slam in the near future. What are your thoughts on these predictions, though?
