Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an ever-evolving sport, and Sophia Clossey, who is only 8 years old, started her BJJ journey in July 2024, is already stacking gold.

She goes by the name "The PiG TaiL SlaYeR" and trains out of Terra Guerra Jiu Jitsu in Augusta. In her two-year journey, she has achieved more than athletes can in probably 5 years. She finished first and won gold at the 2025 PANS No-Gi and topped the ADCC Advanced division.

Training in the extremely technical sport for a year, she has made a remarkable achievement for an 8-year-old. And Sophia's strength regimen is already turning heads. A clip of her doing bicep curls went viral as those curls looked like they could challenge adults.

Her parents run her social media handles and post every detail of her journey. Starting with tournament wins, gym sessions, and training footage.

Sophia's technical and physical development is more than that of most people her age. And behind her, standing like a pillar, is her father

Sophia Clossey's Father Pushed Her to 117 BJJ Wins at Just 8 Years Old

Sophia Clossey's first year of competing as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete was truly commendable. And her father shared a post on Instagram on September 19, 2025, sharing a carousel of pictures for the one-year milestone his daughter had achieved

"Sophia had an incredible first year in the sport of BJJ," he wrote. "She accomplished what very few do, which is win over 117 matches in that first year."

Sophia's father was honest about the cons that came with the glory, the losses, and the doubts.

"We had a lot of highs, and just as many lows, but the lows became lessons and opportunities to see her grow and persevere."

Sophia's achievements are not all from coaching; the environment at home helped her achieve them all as well.

Her father describes a contrasting relationship between the parents: one that fuels and nurtures her, and one that pushes. He believes that balance is what keeps the wheels on.

"Push them now with balance, and they will thank you later," he wrote, "But if you let them lead and decide, they will regret it for a long time."

With year two underway, Sophia sure looks ready to take over this year as well.
